What can you put in a roll-off dumpster?
Most household, remodeling, roofing and yard debris can go in a roll-off dumpster. Three items need a $50 handling fee each: mattresses, tires and appliances with Freon. Hazardous chemicals, wet paint and batteries are not allowed at all.
| Item | Allowed? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture and household junk | Allowed | Weighed with the load |

| Roofing shingles and felt | Allowed | Weighed with the load |
| Carpet and pad | Allowed | Weighed with the load |
| Yard waste, brush and branches | Allowed | Weighed with the load |
| Concrete, dirt, brick (10 and 15-yard, half full) | Allowed | Weighed with the load |
| Appliances without refrigerant (washers, dryers, stoves) | Allowed | Weighed with the load |
| Fencing, decking, siding | Allowed | Weighed with the load |
| Mattresses and box springs | $50 each | Special processing at the disposal site |
| Tires | $50 each | Texas scrap tire rules apply |
| Fridges, freezers, AC units | $50 each | Refrigerant must be recovered |
| Hazardous chemicals, solvents, pesticides | Not allowed | Household hazardous waste drop-off |
| Wet paint | Not allowed | Dry latex out first, or HHW drop-off |
| Batteries (car, lithium, household) | Not allowed | Retailer take-back or HHW drop-off |
Where do banned items go instead?
Banned items go to a household hazardous waste (HHW) program. Dallas County residents can use the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center; Tarrant County cities partner with the Fort Worth Environmental Collection Center; many Collin and Denton County cities run their own drop-off days.
Planning a specific job? See home cleanout dumpsters for mattresses and furniture, remodeling dumpsters for old appliances, and roofing dumpsters for shingles. Each of our service-area pages lists the HHW option for that city with a link to the official page. Car batteries are taken back by most auto-parts stores.
Which rules come from law, and which are our policy?
Two rules come from law. Federal rule 40 CFR 82.155 requires refrigerant to be recovered before fridges, freezers and AC units are disposed of. Texas Transportation Code 725.021 requires loads to be secured so nothing falls off the truck. The fees and fill lines are our policy.
Refrigerant: 40 CFR 82.155 (eCFR). Household hazardous waste: EPA HHW guidance.
This is general information, not legal advice. Confirm with your city, HOA or the disposal site.
Questions about specific items
Can you put a mattress in a dumpster?
A mattress can go in our dumpsters for $50 per mattress, because the disposal site handles mattresses separately. Tell us the count when you book.
Can you put paint in a dumpster?
Wet paint is not allowed. Fully dried-out latex paint cans are household trash in many cities; oil-based paint, stains and solvents go to a household hazardous waste drop-off.
Can you put tires in a dumpster?
Tires are accepted for $50 per tire. Texas regulates scrap tires, so they are separated and processed apart from regular debris.
Can I put a refrigerator or AC unit in a dumpster?
Fridges, freezers and AC units that contain Freon are accepted for $50 each. Federal rules require the refrigerant to be recovered before the appliance is scrapped.
What happens if a banned item is found in my dumpster?
Banned items such as chemicals, wet paint or batteries have to be removed before the load can be hauled or dumped. Keep them out and you avoid delays and extra trips.
